A night at the New York City Opera is like an elegant excursion through time and culture. Since it came into existence in 1943, the institution has provided the public with reasonably priced tickets earning the name "the people's opera company." In a genre full of old standards, the NYCO features performances of contemporary and often overlooked works. In addition, many works performed are from American authors. The company makes its home at the New York State Theatre in Lincoln Center.
