Domenico Ghirlandaio painted the Last Supper in the refectory of the Monastery of Ognissanti in 1480’s. Depicting one of the Bible's most famous scenes, the large fresco covers the entire 8 meters of wall and is considered one of his best works. Although commonly reproduced, it is truly magnificent in person: every object, animal, fruit or flower is depicted with great descriptive care and has a precise symbolical meaning. The sinopia, a preparatory drawing of the fresco, is also on display, as well as two old washbasins and a wooden portal from the original refectory. The entrance to the refectory is through the cloister decorated with frescoes by 15th century Florentine painters, and in the adjoining church there are some earlier works by Ghirlandaio.
