There's just something ineffably thrilling about visiting lighthouses. And as far as they go, Absecon's one of the largest in the US, 3rd largest, to be exact. Completed in 1857, the lighthouse towers 171 feet high, harbors a museum, a gift shop and treats visitors who brave its 240 steps to some truly amazing views.

Absecon Lighthouse has a history museum, wherein items such as pictures from the 18th century, tide water exhibits, information on shipwrecks, photographs of Dr. Jonathan Pitney and General George Meade who were responsible for constructing the Absecon Lighthouse, original oil cans and much more are on display.
