In 1561, Turkish pirates attacked the coasts of Mallorca, and were met with fierce resistance by the locals. Every second Sunday in May, residents stage mock battles and other festivities to commemorate the fights that took place over 400 years ago. The celebrations are held in Sóller and Port de Sóller and are popular patriotic events.
