Built in 1910 by a French architect, the California lighthouse is named for the wreck of the "Californian" which took place off its shores a few years later. While the "Californian" was made famous for receiving and dismissing the SOS calls made by the Titanic just a few years before its own demise, the lighthouse is known for the stunning views it offers of the Island and its rocky northern coastline. Surrounded by flat, stone-filled land and rolling sand dunes the environment is stunning. The interior of the lighthouse is closed to the public but the views from the base are definitely worth the trip.
