Very nice and very cold...must visit
The shops are very interesting and the food is very tasty and worth every penny. Make sure that you bring enough warm clothes for your children. Especially when we go all the way of the boardwalk to see the seal and sea-lion.

C'mon guys
It always pains me to see tourists come to Fisherman's Wharf on a visit to SF. It's actually quite depressing. I live in SF, and my city is one of the most beautiful, cultural and lively places in the country, and its shocking to see visitors forsake the marvels to go gawk at a bunch of junk. If you want to see the best of SF, walk around the places that are completely unique to the city - like the Ferry Building, the Presidio, Marin Headlands, Marina/Cow Hollow/Pacific Heights, Chinatown, even Ghirardelli Square! Trust me, you'll have much more fun walking around in those places than barfing from food poisoning from your over priced burger at the Rainforest Cafe in Fishermans Wharf. The only thing truly entertaining about Fisherman's Wharf is the bush man who jumps out and scares tourists.

Stinky, Over crowded, Boring
I went to fisherman's wharf and I found it to be gross. There was food all over the ground, bird crap everywhere, and it smelt gross. We decided to look for some seals but didn't see any. It was also overcrowded and the food there was nauseating. Don't waste your time, there are plenty of other places to go to in such a large city.

Tacky waste of time
This place has nothing to do with San Francisco, wharfs or fishermen. In fact, you would probably be arrested for fishing there. It's cheesy and cheap and dirty. Go to any beach town in America and you will find something just like this. Don't waste your time.

Can we Touresty
If you like tourist attractions, this is the place to go. It was a fun place with lots of places to spend you money. I had wonderful crepes there for the first time. They were delicious. The carousel was fun for my daughter. Good place to check out a small farmer's market and magic shows on the boardwalk. :)

South of the border North on the wharf
The gaudy signs and cheap junk shops and all those rubes buying into the mess is a huge turnoff. Couldn't wait to get back to the airport and out of there.

EMBRACE THE TOURISTY-NESS
Fisherman's wharf and Pier 39 are exactly what it claims to be; a place for most tourists to get their bearings. If your a first time visitor to the city it's a perfect spot b/c it's a large centralized area and it's easy to find on the map. Parking can get hairy the later you go and some of the meter fees are down right ridiculous (ie on Beach St close to Ghirardelli Square), but there is validated parking for those eating at any of the major restaurants. The wharf has a ton of people watching and some pretty far out street performers. The seafood is awesome and Boudin Bakery is worth a visit any day (Tip; get a bread bowl you won't be disappointed). Things are pricey, but good deals can be found if you look. Walk the whole wharf area if you can even as far as the Ferry Building there are a lot of shops and food places to go to. Pier 39 has great vista points, but a local wouldn't be caught dead there, the best store for value is hands down "Only In San Francisco" were talking most stuff under $10!!! The Sea Lions are a must see and their barking will stay with you forever. Go to the California Welcome Center if you plan any day trips to Napa etc. They will validate your parking for the Pier 39 parking garage only. Have a blast and be a tourist there's nothing wrong with that, but be a smart tourist. Embrace the touristy-ness!!!

Great sandwich!
I was visiting just for a week so, I didn't get to see much of the warf, although it has nice scenery. Try the fish sandwiches! Excellent!
