"Pleasure Point" by Nancy Rubins
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
This is an awe-inspiring, large-scale installation that is uniquely Californian. Artist Nancy Rubins welded and wired a mass of rowboats, canoes, surfboards, and other watercraft into a tangled but somehow streamlined marine traffic accident of a sculpture. As if that weren't enough, she then cantilevered it over the edge of the museum's roof, dangling it precariously over the heads of visitors. After seeing the photo on the museum website, you will surely want to see "Pleasure Point" for yourself.

Garden Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
After perusing the museum's indoor collection, venture back out into the warm Southern California sun, and into the museum's Garden Gallery. Here you will be treated to a dramatic collection of sculpture and other installations, including a "sound installation" by UCSD graduate and Core Fellow Allison Wiese. Her piece includes an interactive solar-powered theremin. Visitors are invited to play it! Come on down to the Garden Gallery, see some art, and rock out on the theremin.
