In January, this massive party takes Santiago hostage as throngs of thong-clad partygoers pour into the streets of Santiago to dance to throbbing electronic music until dawn. Born in Berlin in 1989, the Love Parade is a celebration of - you guessed it - love, as well as all things techno. The parade is a 4-kilometer dance party featuring dozens of floats (or 'mobile stages') and nearly 100 DJs. The love train culminates at the main stage at the Plaza Italia in a huge concert by some of the world's top DJs. Even then, the party isn't over. The 'Megaparty' kicks off at 11p and goes on well beyond everyone's bedtime. Of course, local clubs and venues also join in on the fun, offering parties and DJs of their own.
