WOW! Do it for the views.
The hotel is situated at the prime spot on the Pudong riverfront with the Pearl of Orient Tower, the Jin Mao Tower and the 101-floor Shanghai World Financial Center all nearby. The location is extremely convenient - you can walk to the subway in 5 minutes and arrive at the People's Square station in 10 to 15 minutes. The view of the Bund from my Premier Bund View Room located in the Grand Tower wing was spectacular, although it was partially blocked by the River Wing building. The service was the best I've ever experienced - the staff was extremely attentive and courteous. I ate at three of the restaurants and found the food to be only so-so and quite overpriced. The Horizon Club membership was a good deal however, offering buffet breakfast and drinks and snacks throughout the day. I enjoyed tea in the afternoon in the Club lounge that offers a view of the Pudong area. The room itself was very elegant and ultra clean and comfortable. The bathroom even has a hot tub with a TV built into the wall. The fitness center has a large gym and a large swimming pool with amenities such as a sauna. I checked in to the Shangri-La at 12:30 pm after checking out from another hotel in nearby Puxi and there was absolutely no problem checking in. I really enjoyed my 3-day stay there and will return even though it is quite expensive - there is a 15% surcharge for service on top of the room charge. There were alot of other amenities I just didn't have time to enjoy.

Superb Place
I LOVE this hotel. Everything about the hotel is just perfect. My first night was at the river view and I loved the view. I took alot of photos just from my window. The second to third night I transfered to the new building. The view wasnt that good bec of the construction at the moment but the room's amenities and bathroom are to die for.

Luxury in Pudong
This is a plush hotel offering a great location in Pudong. Rooms are large and very comfortable with most any feature you would like; I would upgrade to the tower room for the slight upcharge. Restaurants are expensive but excellent. The buffet in particular offers a large selection of international choices. The Tower bar is a must at night to see the Bund or to watch the boat traffic. The hotel is located next to a huge international mall which will have any retail item you might care to buy. The subway is less than 1 km from the hotel and will allow you quick access to other parts of the city. The hotel is also close walking distance to all Pudong attractions. A suggestion--if you will travel to this or other Shangri-la properties, it is well worth the effort to join their amenity program--you will be met at the door by a staff member who will escort you to your room and you will bypass the check-in desk. If your budget can afford it, this is the hotel to pick.

1 star service
We'll never go back there. The hotel was beautiful, nice location and food was great, but the service was the worst I've ever seen.

Good Enough for Mom and Dad
This hotel is potentially the best in all of Shanghai. It has a great selection of food, entertainment, bars, and sightseeing/shopping all under one roof. I stayed here for 2 months last time and was extremely impressed with the way I was greeted and taken care of day in and day out. An upgrade to the club floor with a river is must to ensure you take full advantage of the sights. One slight drawback is the scents the hotel uses in teh lobby as at times they are quite strong. Rather than having my parents stay with me in Shanghai I will definitely have them stay at the Shangri-La with question. If only they could move to the Puxi side of the river...

Great for business, good for sightseeing, bad for couples
I've been in this hotel before and after the renovation and the addition of their new tower. This hotel is purely amazing with its view over the Shanghai's river and the Bund. Rooms are huge and their restaurants assure plentiful of food (International and Asian). As it is located in Pudong, it's very convenient from the airport and business locations. Wouldn't recommand it for couples as there is not so much romance in this property.

Wonderful Experience
I paid more than the rack rate and am not sure why but this was a great hotel and a pleasant place to meet customers and clients. I am not Asian but everything there made me feel at home.

Amazing place, amazing service, amazing view on the bund
The new tower of the Pudong Shangri-La gives to this other the best view on the Huangpu river. Jade on 36 Bar is the most incredible bar I have ever seen in a hotel. Thanks!
