Just back from the ER with my 7 year old!
My 7 year old did a junior racing school and then did 2 laps with his dad. On the 2nd lap with his dad he slammed into the wall at 25mph and the barrier came over the car and fell on him. He seemed OK but when he got home I looked him over and he had bruising on his chest, shoulder, right temple & right arm. I asked my husband how he got that banged up with a seatbelt and his response was "uh, they don't have seatbelts" WHAT? what kind of place has junior karts (for 7 year olds!) and no seatbelts! I never would have let him race and don't think anyone should without a belt. The trauma docs were appalled as well and said he could have done some serious damage. 4 hrs in observation later we're home but the potential danger is NOT worth the 'fun'.

Dark and depressing
The whole facility just seemed so dark and depressing to me. They really need to change their paint colors. The Karts seemed okay for gas, they claim on the website they reach speeds of 40 MPH that's okay but another reason I prefer electric karts. Electric karts have better torque, so faster acceleration and reach speed of 45+mph. By far the best electric track I have been to is Pole Position Raceway. The building is nice and bright and the staff is amazing.

Check out Pole Position Raceway
I used to like gas karts until I discovered electric karts at Pole Position Raceway. The electric karts are the same speed, but they accelerate harder and the staff at P2R lets you really race. I'm a complete convert, plus they have kids karts for my son and air conditioning to make it comfortable. The have several tracks, but the closest is in Murrieta. www.polepositionraceway. Their racing is also more affordable.

Wow what a dent!
The premise is neat but way tooo expensive! Its near $30 for a 10 minute race! I dont see why its so expensive! Also they wouldnt take a coupon because one of the kids in our group had been there before! It was in the fine print but c'mon!

More than Perfect Racing
Absolute brilliance. Friendly and helpful staff. Amazing facility, FAST Gas powered Cars, technical track (Designed by Lotus Group they tell me). The main advantage to this place is the Gas Karts. Electric it just not as fun, with Gas Karts you're in charge, no drivers aids or seatbelts or anything. They're basically just de-tuned race Karts. I can't wait to go back, I even bought a memership (great value!). Great place for a birthday party or team building event. Andy gave me a tour and the private rooms look amazing.

Zoom Zoom!
Racing the karts at Miramar was one of the highlights of our 6-day trip to San Diego. Our 16-year-old son rated it as THE highlight, and our 18-year-old daughter also loved it. (OK, we did too!) We went over lunch on a weekday when you get a sandwich and drink with each race. We only waited for a short time before we got into a race. I did feel bad for the other 4 competitors (they race 8 at a time), as they appeared to be pros at this, and I'm afraid that, as beginners, we slowed them down. It wasn't cheap; $95 for the four of us, including the required head gear to wear under the helmets, and shoe rental and purchase of socks(3 of us had worn open-toed shoes, which are not allowed). Would recommend for anyone with older kids. Was about a 20-minute drive from downtown San Diego so a rental car is a must if you are staying downtown.

A REAL RACING CENTER
Finally a place that has real racing. The karts are great and are the closest thing to pro racing in San Diego. GAS powered and fast. I love the sound of the motors and the feel of the steering. Amazing. And if you ask the staff for driving tips, they will make you even faster.
