The alternative hangout for Mumbai's 'beer and rock lovers' community, The Ghetto as a name is a bit of a misnomer. Off the beaten path in a lane behind the Mahalaxmi Temple, this underground bar and pub is where theater buffs and college kids shoot pool and graffiti profound thoughts on the walls. The few murals, like the one of Jim Morrison, differentiate the Ghetto from Mario Miranda's caricature at Cafe Mondegar. Beer is served by the pitcher and might be a tad insipid for most tastes. Don't count on carrying out an intense conversation either. There are no private corners to get away from the loud, over-bearing music. That being said, if you think Cafe Mondegar and Leopold are too touristy, the Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai is for yuppy sellouts, and crowded Toto's is out of the way, The Ghetto is right up your alley.
