Summer days and flower gardens
It was summer when I was there and the locals were playing musical instruments in the street and having picnics, people were extremely friendly and were very impressed when I showed them my photos of Australia.Everyone had ideas where I should stay and travel in Hokkaido.Their generosity was exceptional.

Too Good!!!
Snow can't get any bigger than here!! Sculptures as big as 20 metres captivate you in day and night alike during the Snow Festival. Its almost like big guards looking over the city for 10 days. Add to this, sculptures made by citizens themselves, which though not so big, are interesting nevertheless. The sheer imagination of people while they represent ideas or their likings/dislikings in snow is amazing. Then there is the International snow sculpture competition - the real icing on the cake. Real professionals from around the world compete to build THE sculpture of the year. And these are not lesser in any parameter from others (than size).

Best part of Sapporo
This is not the place to go if you want to be very american, its the sorta place to go to be immersed by the unique variation of the japanese coulture that is Sapporo. The best time to me is during the Summer, there are many very talented street performers, and if that fails to entertain, theres enough beer there to keep any tourist happy... I personally recomend to not drink unless invited to do so with locals so that you can make good friends. The other perks of Odori is that it is centrally located above the center of the subway terminal and can take you to Sapporo and Shin Sapporo JR Station, relatively cheaply.

Snow Festival
I was in Sapporo during the Snow Festival. It was truely awesome. The people there made some amazing things out of the snow and ice. This took place in Odori Park in early February. I was able to get some amazing pictures and it is something that I will never forget. If you are in Hokkaido during February, I would highly recommend seeing this. It is definetly a must see.

A beautiful downtown area
Even though Sapporo is a big city of 1.7 million population you can never feel squeezed in that city. Odori is a beautiful park where nearly always a festival is held. Actually, feels like a festival follows the other. In winter you can enjoy Snow Festival (Yuki Matsuri). In summer it is amazing to see youngsters training and performing street dancing, skate boarding or playing an instrument. You can just grab your refreshing beer and enjoy the park which is at the center of the town. But you never feel like you are at the center of the town. Excellent place. You should give yourself a chance to see Sapporo.

Odori ga suki!
Odori Park is a must for anyone visiting Sapporo. No matter what season you visit, there will always be a festival of some sort. The Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) is the most famous, with amazing snow and ice sculptures and is held in February. During the summer months, there's the summer festival, as well as Bon Odori with lanterns and traditional dances and foods. It's like NY's Central Park for Sapporo, but it also has the TV tower, which is a great place to go to for an amazing view of the city.
