Family remains very important in Mexico and children are especially treasured. Dia del Niño (Day of the Child) celebrates the children of Mexico. This is a day for them to be indulged and allowed to play so school usually finishes early or is cancelled altogether. At the Plaza Central there is a special party where clowns and performers entertain the children. A favorite meal is given out along with candies, toys and presents. Every child is welcomed to join in the fun.
