The Gold Museum is one of a kind in the world. It exhibits more than 33,000 gold objects. The artifacts on display reflect the genius and artistry of the pre-Colombian societies, before the arrival of the Spaniards. The museum is divided into different rooms, each one displays a selection of gold pieces, representative of the indigenous cultures of Colombia, as well as textiles and objects in bone and clay. The Salon Dorado room exhibits 8,000 gold pieces of astonishing beauty and the display takes you through the legend of El Dorado using a background of sounds and images. The guided tour and headphone commentary system is available in several languages. The bookshop carries a vast selection on pre-Colombian cultures, art, architecture and natural reserves, as well as a selection of souvenirs and reproductions of the exhibited pieces. Due to remodeling that will last until late 2008, the original Museum only provides restricted tours at select times, call for details. However there is a temporary exhibit of the in the Art Museum of the Banco de la República, Calle 11 No. 4-21, Second Floor.
