Since 1967, during the final week of July and the first of August, thousands of tourists and locals join together to celebrate this traditional festival dedicated to Merengue, the typical local music. This event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, begins with a picturesque parade at the famous El Malecón. Various activities follow the parade, including performances by popular local bands, handicraft exhibitions, a fish fair, a food fair, a typical Dominican sweets fair and games.
