High above Old Town, sits the Presidio. First built in 1769 by the Spanish Army as a fort, the Presidio lookout still provides a panoramic view of the city. The adjacent museum was built in 1929 revealing a fine example of Mission Revival-style architecture. Inside the museum you will find clothing, artifacts, furniture, tools and army artillery.

Commemorating 75 Years: the Serra MuseumJan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
Artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, and other ephemera tell the tale of this very museum's origins. The Serra Museum was dedicated in 1929, and this exhibit recalls those heady days, as well as the decades immediately preceding. Displays focus on the changing landscape in addition to the changing times.
Life on Presidio Hill

This exhibit treats visitors to a peek into the everyday lives of the inhabitants of Presidio Hill in its heyday. The native Kumeyaay people were there first, of course. Then came explorers such as Cabrillo and Vizcaino. But it was Padre Serra who had the biggest impact. "Life on Presidio Hill" tells all of these stories and more.
