Back to Marius Surprise at the end We heard about the food and decided to eat at Marius. The menu would be around 92 real per person for the meat buffet. The waiter confirmed the only extra you pay will be for drinks.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 21 2009 Expensive Money Trap!! Stay Away From Marius! My wife and I went to Marius for dinner after a friend told us about how good the restaurant was. What a rip off!! First, the cost is way to much. For the both of us, we paid $397 Reais(~200 US). This included Seafood Buffet/Seafood Rodizio, 3 cokes, desert buffet, and tip. I figured that the desert buffet was included, but was an extra 20 Reais per person. The staff was not the greatest. I felt like they were forcing the food on us so we would be full and leave sooner, allowing them to put another sucker at our table. There are so many other great places to eat for less than half of the cost, don't even bother with this place. RED FLAG: You will never see any locals eating here, they know that it is way overpriced for the quality. It is all tourists. Don't go, and if you do, be prepared to pay up.
Reviewed by: miami from on May 09 2009 Never again I had visited Marius Seafood on a previous visit to Rio and really enjoyed it so I ignored recent negative feedback and decided to give it another try. Sorry to say, the negativity is more than merited. Prices have shot up, the food is nowhere as good as it used to be and the service was sloppy and downright rude at times. The emphasis now seems to have shifted from having a loyal local clientele to being wholly focused on turning over "rich tourists" and squeezing the last Real for incidentals. There are many much better restaurants at a fraction of the cost.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 08 2009 Bait and Switch We were in Rio during Carnaval and was looking forward to eating seafood at Marius. We heard that it was expensive but good but were never prepared for what we would be charged. The buffet had crab legs, lobster chunks and every type of fish you can imagine. Very good selection but then theres a buffet that has desserts on it and one would assume that if you pay for a buffet, everything would be included. Keep in mind there were no signs on the dessert buffet. We get our bill and the price for two adults, 2 caiprihinas 2 bottle of water 2 seafood buffets and 2 "desserts buffets" was 430.00!!! which translates to about $195.00 US. I seriously thought it was a mistake but the pregnant woman who was managing the place came over and explained about the buffet. No matter how much I argued it wasn't happening. for two desserts off of the buffet, it costs us almos $38.00 due to the fact that we didn't know about the extra charge. Do not visit this establishment as they prey on tourists and know that they'll have to pony up afterwards. It is worth maybe $50.00 each but now where near the highway robbery that took place.
Reviewed by: Jason from on Mar 01 2009 TOURIST TRAP!!! AVOID IT!!! They provide you with a special menu - 720 $R for two people. Drink excluded, that means youend up paying 1000. The fact is that the venue is just average. You end up paying like you were in NOBU but without the whole experience of being in a really amazing restaurant. It´s just outrageously expensive. It´s just tricky. Avoid this place!!!!
Reviewed by: Gio from on Dec 25 2008 Great dining experience! The decor was great, the greeters at the door were friendly and the food was out of this world! What more could you want from a restaurant?! They did a huge range of food, anyone could find something they liked. I'd love to return one day!
Reviewed by: Jeannette from on Aug 13 2008 Whatch out brandy 26 glass!! Lovely atmosphere - food great BUT we asked for our drinks bill - we had paid for food - we were then offered a brandy (the inference being it was complimentary), we asked again for the bill and found the Brandys were 26 per glass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewed by: bella from on Jul 13 2008 Avoid this place! Three seafood meals, seven drinks - R$650 (about $400US). Based on other comparable places in Rio, about 3x what it ought to be. Ridiculous. Unfortunately, this rating system will not let me give Marius zero stars for overall experience or value. I'd give them a negative number if I could.
Reviewed by: bill m from on Jul 10 2008 Tourist Trap & Thieves A cab driver convinced us to go here instead of Porcow, likely due to a kickback. This was the worst restaurant I've ever been to and grossly over priced. The food was mediocre at best, the seafood looked and smelled horribly stale. Largest bill I had the entire trip for such a disappointing trap.
