Back to La Jolla Cove Suites Destroyed Anniversary ! We honeymooned at this very hotel 34 years ago. We thought it would be romantic to revisit the beginings of our marriage. We planned and made reservations months in advance. We looked so forward to this celebration! That all changed the minute we entered the elevator to go to our room. Being crowded in by a drunk family who lost their floor. It gets worse, we opened the door to our room where plug in fans were blowing to an open balcony slider. The decor hadn't changed in 34 yrs. I don't think they had cleaned it in that many years as well. The walls are paper thin and we had an adjoining room with guests who had were singing with their TV blaring as well! The glass bowl ('70's) lanterns with night lights flanked the bed. Needless to say the romance flew out the window when we pulled out the '70's couch bed to try to sleep for the night. The park and the street in front of the hotel are noisy and is lit with Flood lights. The parking was attrocious. A lot has changed in 34 years, but I don't think cleanliness and decor for the money should have been compromised. What a disaster. I wished I would have reviewed it sooner. We did ask if we could see the rooms when we made the reservations and the clerks refused us. Lessons learned. It was not fun, we would only recommend that people not stay here. It was a horrible experience and the price only added insult to injury!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Sep 10 2009 Did not want to leave Great Location. The view of the ocean was fantastic. Breakfast, staff and grounds could not be better. Our room was well maintained daily. Security was good. Front desk had a great group of people to help you any time. Would go back in a minute. And the price was right. The purpuse of our trip was for a family wedding at the Darlington House.
Reviewed by: Easton from on Oct 09 2008 Highly recommended We had our daughter's wedding on the rooftop and experienced the most beautiful view in So Cal.!!! We also hosted over 100 people at the hotel with rave reviews from everyone. Most important was the amazing staff. Joy, Tracey and the sales staff went above and beyond to ensure the wedding was a success. We would highly recommend the La Jolla Cove Suites for any event.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 16 2008 Solid. Really. Perfect location, excellent views, and very spacious rooms highlight our recent stay. Do not be discouraged by the rough reviews this place gets; while it is not luxurious like a chain hotel or the boutiques, it is a better option than a single room standard hotel. We stayed in the full suite, which had two beds in a separate bedroom. Full bathroom, kitchenette, and large family room with attached balcony overlooking the cove and ocean. Plenty of room to spread out and even caused us to debate staying in a night to enjoy. Ventillation was not a problem for us as it was cool at night, but airflow was not great. Breakfast was moderate, but was enough to get you going for a morning walk and ready for a real lunch. The hotel shows its age, beds were so so, but for an oceanfront locale, this was worthy.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 13 2008 DO NOT STAY HERE Let me start with a positive; the view is spectacular from the rooms that face the cove. That said if you'd like to be guaranteed indoor plumbing you might want to consider staying elsewhere.
Reviewed by: Car-Guy from on Apr 24 2007 Maybe many years later we'll return The rooms are very old fashioned, old furnishings, old looking carpet. The staff seem like beat dogs because so many complaints are lodged that instead of being proud with tails wagging they tuck them between their tails like " I've heard the complaints before, too many times. ". Their heads literally hung down. The price wasn't worth it. The housekeeping is adequate but it's hard to keep old stuff looking clean. Maybe the owners should sell out and move on, let someone else who really cares come in and raze or renovate the property.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 24 2006 Airplane Bathroom! My husband and I stayed at the Lo Jolla cove Suites for a wedding rehearsal and wedding the next day. The view as we arrived was beautiful, but if you rent a regular room you look out on a concrete pit-like parking lot. Our room was not airconditioned, although a small fan was provided. Unfortunately, you need to leave the windows open to get any benefit from the fan and to get any privacy, you have to close the heavy curtains which leaves a dimly lit, muggy, airless room!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 27 2006 I stay here every year for past 13 years My inlaws have been renting an ocean front suite for two weeks during the summer for the past 13 years. I look forward to staying with them every year. The reviews about the furniture being outdated is very accurate. But I enjoy that because it makes the feel of the place much more casual. The terrace suite we stay at has a very large living room where all of us "kids" camp out during the weekends. The location can't be beat. We normally walk to one of the fabulous restaurants in the area each night. I spend the afternoons at the beach or playing cards with the family in front of the beautiful view on the patio. The place isn't so much dirty as it is worn down. If your looking to relax in a very casual type hotel, this is the place to go.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 22 2006 Breathtaking Views!! We spent 4 fabulous days in one of the "Executive Suites" in the hotels Terrace section it had a panoramic view of the ocean with a large sun deck, the suite itself was spacious with tasteful and comfortable furnishings and very clean, it would be perfect for a family or couples, the staff was pleasant and very helpful, if you have the opportunity to visit beautiful La Jolla, CA you can't go wrong with this hotel.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 01 2005 not all that it was cracked up to be I found this on yahoo travel and went to the hotel with high expectations. My girlfriend and I drove to the vicinity of the hotel my expectations were somewhat dashed by the pastel colors and the rather shabby paintjob on the outside. Shrugging this off, I got my room. It seemed to be a really old style. I was expecting something more modern. Regardless, it is a nice play to stay if you're not too keen on aesthestics. But if athmosphere is important to you this is probably not the best place.
