Love this Hotel and location!
Customs was nothing and very easy. Cab from airport was $65 AUD. When we got here it was such an easy check-in. Our rooms were not ready so the hotel found us 2 that were (our 21 yr.old son was with us) and they took us right up! The staff was helpful and efficient and could not enough for us.l was thrilled with our city view. However the location is great right up the street from Circular Quay (pronounced Q or K), so we had access to many restaurants. The food at the hotel is pricey, so we mostly ate out at small places, except the breakfast in the Opera Room which runs $30-38 AUD's and delicious. The advice I have is to bring lots of money, as cabs are the best way to travel and can run up if you keep using them. Remember it's a city and you can get tired of walking! I do think a car is the advantage. Sydney does have a great bus service! Book all your excurisions before you leave and make sure you do something that takes you out of the city at least once. The bus tours are good, and familiarize you with the city and the blue line trip has beautiful view of the Tasman Sea and homes facing it. Our son got sick and was ill and the Hotel called the doctor on call for them he show'd up in a hour, treated him right in the room, and all I can say is make sure you take out travel insurance. It was $390 AUD total, but you can bill it to the room. The room was clean, the bathroom lovely, and house keeping changed the sheets at your request every day. Remeber that it's the end of their winter here in Aug. so bring light weight jackets, sweaters and rain coats. We are from Wash.DC so their winter is like our early spring. The harbour lunch cruise was great, and so is the harbour hightlights cruise. I recommend Capt. Cook Cruises. Most of the lunch places open at 10am but close at 2:30pm as they cater to the business lunch crowds, so you can eat then. There is a small mall across the street to shop in for things you have forgotten. The beds are very comfortable, the pool is on the 31st floor and has a beautiful view of the bridge and opera house (which you can walk to) and the sunset from the indoor pool is fantastic. All in all this was for us the best place to stay and when we come back we will stay here again!

I MUST go back.
The Intercontinental offers amazing views of the Botanical Gardens and the Sydney opera House. It is just a few blocks from the Circular Quay where you may take a ferry to the Tornga Zoo and Manly Beach. The hotel is within walking distance of many attractions. The decor is sleek, the room service prompt and it is very, very clean. I can't wait to return.

Don't go for breakfast
I had a business breakfast at the restaurant on level 1 this morning and was very disappointed. Service was poor, the food and drink was mediocre and it was far too expensive for what we received. If you are staying there, find somewhere else for breakfast - there are a few good options just over the road.

Perfect
The hotel was lovely but the staff made our stay a most memorable occasion with their perfect service from check-in, conceirge, housekeeping and our favorite the staff on the Club level. We stayed on the Club level and started each day with a buffet breakfast and after a tough day of "touring" it was so nice to relax with a great Australian wine and enjoy the beauty of Sydney from the "glass" Club room. We only hope all Inter-Continental Hotels are as perfect as the Sydney Inter-Continental.
