Montreal needs a reason to celebrate in the midst of the cold, snow and seemingly endless darkness of February and March. Theaters, orchestras, dance troupes, museums and restaurants take part in the Festival Montréal en Lumière, combining performing arts, multimedia lighting shows and culinary arts to celebrate amidst the cold, the snow and the dark. Original lighting works are created on ten different downtown buildings, lending a magical air to the city. Festival Montréal en Lumière takes place at a number of venues, including the Quays of the Old Port, Old Montreal and the Rue De la Commune by Pointe-à-Callière.
