Easy to locate, this temple stands only about six kilometers from Gianyar town, on the main road going north. The temple got its name from an ancient bronze kettledrum housed in the inner sanctum. Measuring more than two meters lengthwise, this object is known locally as the “Moon of Pejeng.” As one of the few remains of the Balinese Bronze Age, it is of great antiquity. The temple functioned as one the most important places of worship during the time of the great Balinese kingdoms. Temple festival occurs during the ninth Balinese month.
