This little esplanade was laid out between 1743 and 1757 by Tourny. 65 meters wide and 265 meters long, it is bordered on one side by buildings with Louis XV style façades. The original buildings were comprised of only two floors; many of them were revamped after the destruction of Château Trompette (located at the Place des Quinconces (La)) since they were no longer in the way of canon fire. The houses on the other side were constructed in the 19th century. A merry-go-round with wood horses is located here year-round, and every December it welcomes the marché de Noël2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value. Marché de Noël
Nov 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
Every year starting in late November, a number of small wooden stalls spring up on the Allées de Tourny, opposite the Grand Théâtre. The Christmas Market takes place in the heart of Bordeaux, with a different country organizing the nativity display each year. The market features a delightful variety of goods on display and an overwhelmingly cheerful atmosphere. There are some great ideas for Christmas presents, and absorbing some local Christmas cheer offers a good glimpse into Bordeaux's culture.
