Place de la Victoire was originally named place d'Aquitaine in the 18th century; it was meant to unify a whole quarter around the prominent porte d'Aquitaine. Today it is recognized as the student quarter; the most popular bars are found here as well as the Faculté de Médecine. Several large streets branch out from this place and lead to the train station and the Place Pey Berland.

Located between Place de la Victoire and Saint-Jean Station, this bulk-buying trading place thrives amid modern architectural design and a pleasurable atmosphere. Try to go on Saturday mornings when the stalls are nicely full and the fish sections particularly well-stocked. Products are really fresh, and Bordeaux being near the sea, you'd be a fool not to snap up the seafood and fresh fish that arrives from the Arcachon Basin at night or first thing in the morning. This is also the best time to really experience the special atmosphere of les Capus. Timings differ for weekdays and weekends.
