Erected between 1894 and 1902 in memory of the Girondin officials who fell victim to the Reign of Terror following the French Revolution, this column stands 43 meters tall and features a superb fountain in the heart of the city, in one of the greatest plazas in Europe. Its summit is topped with a statue of "Freedom breaking its shackles". Among the imposing statues one can aso find "the Triumph of the Republic" (towards the Grand Théâtre), which recalls the fundamental laws of the nation, and "the Triumph of the Concord" (towards the quartier des Chartrons), protecting brotherhood. The bronzes of the fountain were restored in 1983.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value. Best Escape. – Escape to Tampa Bay!
