This old warship cruiser belongs to the French Navy and is one of the country's biggest warships. Now with a new lease of life as a museum, you can retrace the life of the vessel from her construction in 1953 to her last mission in 1990 during the Gulf War. In addition to the photography exhibitions on board, a visit to the ship gives you a glimpse of what life must have been like for the sailors who lived and worked on her. You'll come across all the signs of daily living, from mess hall to the barber shop, the dentist's cabin and the hospital ward. Guided tours run every Saturday at 2:30p and there is free parking in front of the ship.

Croiseur Colbert Battleship discovery Quai des Chartrons Bordeaux 33000 S.France. I have visited this naval museum on many occasions & have many photographs of my visit should anyone by interested. The tour of the naval museum ship takes approximately 1 1/2 hrs. However if you are very interested (like I was!) the tour can take as long as you want! The staff there were very friendly & helpful. There is also a lovely gift shop located by the main entrance/exit selling expensive souvenirs such as wine, sweatshirts etc, to the inexpensive such as thimbles, pencils, post cards and stamps etc. all with the Colbert ship theme. My 2 young children were with us & they thoroughly enjoyed! The only thing I would stress is get a good pair of comfortable shoes & If you have little ones under the age of 4 they may find the stairs quite hard to climb & likewise parents may find it difficult to carry young children for the time period to tour the whole ship.
