During the last weekend of August, the Uitmarkt launches the national cultural season. This event provides a preview of what's to come in theater, cabaret, dance, pop music, classical music, opera, mime, children's theater, street theater and film. The Dutch love massive celebrations, and the Uitmarkt, which is attended annually by some 500,000 people, is no exception. National Museum Weekend

During National Museum Weekend, which usually takes place in April, you can visit a large number of Amsterdam's museums at a reduced price, or even for free. As many as 500 museums take part, so refer to the website for information on dates and venues. There are even special tours only available during this time.
