Reviewed by: heatherm from on Jan 25 2009 Very Good A great value. Service was not the best to say the least, but we didn't find "great" service anywhere on the island. The room was great with a beautiful view from the door wall to the balcony of the Caribbean Sea. Everything in the room worked so there were no complaints there. The beach bar grill had a limited but good menu for lunch, after about 5 the dinner menu was more elaborate…..The service was better at the bar rather than the actual restaurant. The snorkeling at the beach was good, although it was the first time snorkeling so I didn’t know what to expect, I did see multiple barracudas…..the shop where you rent the snorkeling equipment was very “iffy” as well as there was one day where nobody showed up to open up so we had to change our plans midday. There was an occasional airplane taking off over our hotel so that was a bit noisy, but it wasn’t too bad…..There was hardly any planes taking off at night as I’m a light sleeper and didn’t get woken up in the middle of the night by any. Overall it is a great value and I would recommend it.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 04 2007 Planning a wedding at Emerald Beach! We went to St. Thomas in June 2007 to scope out the island for a wedding and have actually decided on Emerald Beach for the location! The room and grounds were clean and maintained. The beach was gorgeous! Having said that, this hotel runs on island time which means that things happen slowly... towels are sometimes hard to come by but we just called the front desk everyday to request more... The restaurant was kind of expensive but the food was okay. All together, this hotel was certainly worth it and I would definitely stay here again.

Reviewed by: Sheila from on May 31 2006 Do not stop here The air conditioning is not maintained and it is full of mold and who knows what. The rooms and the beach are also not maintained well enough to justify spending your time or money there.
Reviewed by: steve from on Mar 09 2006 Would stay there again The hotel and surroundings were exactly as the pictures I saw on the internet, right down to the crooked palm tree. We even took our pictures at the palm tree to show the comparrison with the picture from the internet to our friends. The review I read from another couple that stayed there was very valuable regarding the taxi vs the local transportation. If you take the time to find the "bus stops" you can ride for only $1, if you get a taxi, the 2.5 mile ride to downtown costs $6 per person. The hotel was very comfortable, the view from our private balcony was breath taking. Having my morning coffee on the balcony watching the cruise ships come in was the relaxation I was looking for. The rustic tiki hut resturant looking out at the ocean was a perfect breakfast atmosphere, and the picturesque waterfall at the lazy "L" pool was an added bonus.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 22 2005 good value for your money We stayed in the hotel in May 2005. One has to view this hotel in "islands" context. People are more relaxed and visitors from continental US might think that service is slow and bad. Accept local culture. When dealing with people expect people reply the very same way you talk to them.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 09 2005 Great way to start the trip We were only staying here one night to start a vacation on St Johns (in a residence). We had such a great time that we wished we could have stayed longer. The beach is beautiful, the staff is very friendly and despite the proximity of the airport the noise was not a problem at all.
