Managed jointly by the National Park Service and the territorial government, this under developed site with dramatic views was where Christopher Columbus sent a party ashore while sailing through the area in 1493. His men skirmished with the Carib Indians then living at Salt River. It takes some sleuthing to ferret out the history at what merely looks like a windswept beach, but what appears to be a small hill behind the beach is really the remains of an old earth fort. A Carib ceremonial site sits directly under the taxi parking area. No admission charge.
