Leipzig is full of stunning buildings, but none are more beautiful than the breathtaking Alte Börse. Built in 1678-87 by Christian Richter, the Alte Börse was originally used as a trading floor for merchants. The merchants are long gone, but the building is still used for a variety of events including concerts and balls. A statue of Goethe, Germany's greatest playwright, stands in front of the building as a memorial to his student days in Leipzig.
