This land was once the property of Colonel Andrew Deveaux. In 1783 he was granted the land, used as a cotton plantation, as a reward for his efforts against the Spanish in Nassau. Ruins of his antebellum-style plantation mansion still remain today. Most of the framework of heavy wooden beams has survived the elements, but only pieces of the ornately carved trims have had the same luck. The mansion is located near the entrace to the Greenwood Beach Resort. Visitors are welcome to tour the ruins free of charge.
