Great beach for swimming too
This was our favorite beach in PV. It was close to the apartment we rented in old town (Casa del Puente). We were there in early June, and the water was so warm that you could swim or float in the ocean comfortably for over an hour (this from someone who gets cold in the water in Hawaii!) We enjoyed watching the fish swim around us. The sand was also very soft so you don't have to wade over rocks or pebbles.

A fun beach hangout
Puerto Vallarta doesn't boast the most beautiful beaches, but this is definitely a fun one to visit. It's packed with a mix of locals and tourists along with piles of vendors selling you everything imaginable. The beach is lined with bars and cafes which are really cheap. We got 3 beers for $5! We didn't swim because the water was freezing, but definitely a fun place to hangout for a few hours.

Fun for all
I never believed I could spend a whole day at the beach, and not loose my mind with boredom. Boy was I proven wrong. This beach has everything I want. First of all is diversity, there are gay and lesbian right next to families with children all enjoying the sun sand water, coexisting in peace. Next there are restaurants with extremely inexpensive food and drink items for sell, clean restrooms, come on what more do you need. There are vendors who walk the beach selling items, but all you need to do is say no thank you and they leave.

The real reason it's called the beach of the dead...
I just got back from PV. On Saturday early afternoon I hitched a cab to "La Playa de los Muertos". My g/f and I were looking for a hip spot to have a few drinks and listen to music... what we found was filthy water, uncontrollable badgering from street vendors, and not a single beachfront bar/restaraunt that was what we were looking for. Maybe saturday was "Dump your sceptic tank into the Ocean Day", but we didn't spend anymore time here.

The only place in PV to stay or hang out!
My wife & I have been to PV many times, and we discovered the Los Muertos Beach area on one of our first trips to PV. We have spent many afternoons and sunsets at Burros Bar. A sunset at Burros is an experience not to be missed. We also like to hang out at Cuates y Cuetes up by the pier for either breakfast, or for sunsets and live music in the evening, while watching the action on the pier. The palapas at the Lazy Lizard are also a great place to have a few cervezas in the afternoon before your siesta. A bucket of 5 ice cold Dos Equis for $5 is hard to beat. This is also one of the best swimming spots on Los Muertos Beach. We almost always stay in the Los Muertos Beach area, and we always hang out there.

fun in the sun
Just came back from a beautiful and sun filled week in Puerto Vallarta. Stayed in Old Town and spent a lot of time on this beautiful friendly beach. White sand, banana boats, parasailing etc. A short walk from the Santa Barbara Theatre where we took in the opening night of Phantom of the Opry. A musical comedy with some very talented people - a must see. Dinner at the theatre was excellent - we had the chicken done with a pineapple sauce. You'll love the beach and the entertainment.

very nice
We've stayed on this beach 7 times in the past 12 years. It's definitely gotten busier and more expensive as the years have passed. It's still fun and the best value in the area for beach hotels and restaurants. The costs are about the same as when we travel in the US. We never stay in expensive places or eat in expensive restaurants. It's also relatively safe. We have also noticed the air quality has gotten much worse over the years. But we'll continue to visit there unless it gets really bad. We do recommend it to all our friends.

Location, location, location...
I recommend Old Town and Los Muertos Beach for anyone wanting to stay in an area that offers all the best of what Puerto Vallarta has to offer.

Charm, romance, and breathtaking beauty!
Truly a spectacular location, Playa de los Muertos is the PERFECT vacation spot for anyone looking for a romantic/relaxing/fun get-away. The sand is very fine with various colors from light beige to black. Vendors walk by with tempting shrimp, jewelry, blankets, and more. Banana boats zoom by with people having a blast bouncing up and down above the ocean surface. Parasailors hover overhead painting the sky. I have been to Puerto Vallarta on two occassions; summer of 2000 when I stayed at Playa de los Arcos Hotel, and summer of 2002 when I stayed at the Andale Hotel. A convenient block away from the beach Playa de los Muertos and a place exploding with character and a great time, I highly recommend staying at Hotel Andale. Playa de los Muertos is beautiful any time of the day, but especially during sunset. It is the most incredible place to take a romantic stroll. If one keeps following the beach heading North, the Malecón appears and is very accessible. Have a wonderful and memorable time in Puerto Vallarta... the place filled with magic.
