This is a well-appointed Colonial-style bed and breakfast located in the old Providence courthouse on Mansion Row. Antique furniture, shimmering chandeliers and nineteenth century touches make this a feast for the eyes. Other special features of this inn include its convenience to both downtown and College Hill. The Rhode Island School of Design buildings, including the museum are very close by, and Brown University starts a block up the hill. The inn is close to good restaurants and across the street is a majestic view of the State House.

My boyfriend and I stayed overnight here on a trip to Providence last fall. Though we do not consider ourselves "B&B people," we both loved this place. The manager was very friendly and relaxed (not at all the stereotype of the pushy B&B host) and he showed us a few rooms so that we could pick the one that suited us best. Old Court has the charm of an inn, the conveniences of a hotel (private bathroom, cable tv), and is in a very convenient location (between Brown University and downtown Providence -- we were able to walk to both easily). And, though it sounds trite, we truly did awaken to the smell of fresh baked muffins and ate a delicious breakfast before heading out to explore this cool little city.
