"Featuring everything from full-size tanks to the personal letters of prisoners, this museum presents an informative journey through the wars of the 20th Century. Galleries take visitors through a tour of the First and Second World Wars, as well as conflicts including Vietnam and the Falklands. A highlight of the museum is the permanent Holocaust Exhibition. It's a rare glimpse into the reality of life during a very traumatic period. Other exhibitions regularly visit the museum for extended periods of time. The museum also enthralls the public with full-size reconstructions of an air-raid shelter and a front line trench. In short, a museum that doesn't fail to both impress and inform. General admission is free, but the museum may charge a fee for special exhibitions.

One of the major temporary exhibits by the Imperial War Museum, the Children's War is a must watch for kids and adults alike. The exhibit portrays the impact war has had on the minds of children, which is not just touching but heart rendering as well. The exhibits works on themes like blackout, air raids, evacuation etc. and features the popular work 1940s House.

Breakthrough will please all with an elegant artistic taste. Officially commissioned by artist like Paul Nash, John Piper, CRW Nevinson etc. The collection features brilliant works of British art. While most of the art work surround around the World war themes, contemporary works by William Scott and Robert Colquhoun also find place.

Worth a Visit for History Buffs
This is a fabulous place for history buffs. If you want to see General Montgomery's tank--it's there! There is a mock-up of a WW1 trench that visitors walk thru with the sounds, views, and, yes....smells as well. There is also a great MI5 exhibit and WWII Rationing on the Homefront. There is great stuff here. I've heard that the newly opened Imperial War Museum location in Manchester is also fascinating.
