Audio Guide This beautiful church is one Dublin's two Anglican cathedrals and has stood on this site since AD 600. The present building was founded in 1172 by Strongbow, the Anglo-Norman conqueror of Dublin. In the hundreds of years since, the building has weathered many changes of design and periods of steady deterioration. Since 1870 however, the Cathedral has been gradually and sensitively restored. The cathedral houses some of the remains of Strongbow, a casket containing the heart of St Laurence (the patron saint of Dublin) and a tabernacle and candlesticks used by James II in 1689 when the Latin Mass was briefly celebrated. The cathedral choir is one of the finest in Ireland.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York! Experience New York At It's Finest!JustClickLocal.comAlaska – it’s HOT! Christ Church Cathedral New Year's Bells
Dec 31st, 2009 to Jan 1st, 2010
Every new year's eve, the Christ Church Cathedral Society of Change Ringers work overtime, literally ringing in the New Year with a deafening chorus of the Cathedral's world famous bells. Large crowds usually assemble outside the cathedral, nursing either their favourite Yuletide beverage or the early stages of a crippling hangover, while cheering as the bells resonate throughout Dublin. Tours of the cathedral, available throughout the year, allow visitors to see the Ringers in action. Admission is free, but donations to the Cathedral are always welcome.
