Founded by the renowned film critic Enno Patalas and supported by the City of Munich (this explains the cheap prices!), the Filmmuseum is known to cinema enthusiasts throughout the world for its preservation of films deemed to be at risk, such as Fritz Lang's Metropolis. The ambitious program contains films by well-known (and lesser-known) directors and actors as well as contemporary films which have been ignored by video rental companies. The museum is a part of Münchner Stadtmuseum.
