Back to Pikes Peak Amazing! We decided to drive the drive to the summit, instead of take the cog railway. I was very nervous--no guard rails, for the most part! But the scenery on the drive up is totally unreal! We drove with the sunroof open and the windows open for the majority of the trip up. Just be warned of EXTREME dust in the car!! At the summit, we enjoyed the views, and donuts and hot chocolate! My 7 year old did get altitude sickness--but it was all worth it! The drive down the mountain was more relaxing (we were up there late, so no cars going up). We even got to see some HUGE mule deer off the side of the side of the road.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 15 2009 Will go back again My family and I just got back from Co. and we took the cog to pikes peak. Truly amazing view the ride was great the conductor had us laughing the whole hour and a half ride up. We would do it again in a second. The view from up there was breathtaking. Recomend to anyone.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 04 2009 Awesome views! We took the Cog Railway to the top of Pike's Peak. The ride was so beautiful! An hour of the best scenery! At the top the view was great and we even had snow in June! Just what my son wanted at the top! Besides hot chocolate and a doughnut! This was a great value at $81.00 for 2 adults and 2 children!

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 14 2008 Not as nervewracking as expected We drove up to Pikes Peak yesterday. Even in May, we weren't able to get to the top due to snow and ice. Were able to make it to the 16th mile, but the last three miles to the top were closed off.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 04 2008 Cog Train to Pikes Peak I think hiking is the best way, but the Cog is the easiest (and most expensive). Please note that you do not get to stay more than about 45 minutes on the top because the air is so thin that most people get light-headed after this amount of time. While the mountain views are the best on the three seat side, the big-horn sheep usually are on the two seat side and the view on the top is best on the two seat side so both can be good.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Feb 01 2008 View of the world When I went to Pikes Peak only 13 of the 19 miles were open. However, it was an amazing adventure and I will definately go back. I recommend stopping for all the views and take your time. If you drive, be aware that this is not for novice drivers. My 2004 Cavalier took Pikes Peak pretty well, so don't hesitate with a smaller car.
Reviewed by: Jered from on Jan 10 2008 Hiking up is the only way to go! I recently went on a hiking trip up Pike's Peak with my unit. It took about 7 hours to complete the 13+ mile trip up Barr trail. The views were breath taking! Along with the solitude and peacefulness of nature it was definitely worth the cost, 0 dollars.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 05 2007 Pricey, but a great view The trip on Pikes Peak was great! If you love seeing beautiful mountains and trees and great scenery - you will love it. Bring your camera for some awesome pictures from the top. We rode the cog railway. We were on the left side of the train (with 3 seats), and the views were much better there. I wish we could have stayed at the top a little longer. Don't waste your money on the donuts - they are bad.
Reviewed by: susan from on Sep 23 2007 It's just Breathtaking!!!! The view is just spectacular. We rode the cog train up and back which was an experience in it's self. At the top when we got out you had to stand a moment and get your bearings. After that we were just fine. Standing on the top while looking out from the peak someone had came up and was playing the bagpipes, they played Amazing Grace which was just the neatest thing.
