Ri Tan Park was once part of a network of imperial altars used for worshiping the natural world. The park was the location for an altar, built in 1530 AD, that was used for praying to the sun. All traces of the former red altar mounted on a stone platform are now gone and RiTan Park is mostly known as a tranquil place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon. A mini-golf course can be found within the park grounds. The popular Chinese pursuit of kite flying can also be practiced here.
