Every August, Quebec City travels back in time to relive 150 years of French rule during the Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France. Natives, Filles du Roy, bourgeois, and coureur de bois sweep into Place Royale, one of UNESCO's most beautiful World Heritage sites. Musicians, dancers and storytellers, as well as merchants, cooks and seigneurs join the festivities, which last for five days. The festival is an incredible opportunity to discover Quebec's history and everyone is welcome, costumes or not. Most events are free; occasional indoor shows will charge admission.
