Back to Athabasca Hotel There are better places to stay in Jasper The entrance one to this hotel is reminiscent to a ‘Fairmont’ with its Victorian style entrance way encircled by animal heads, wood panels and soft lighting but this is where any grandeur stops. My room during my stay was small and sparingly furnished but was clean and inviting. The cost a one night stay was $90 this included a double bed and private bathroom and nothing else, seriously nothing else! Don’t expect an extra pillow in the room or a coffee machine or anything apart from a bed and a shower and TV.

It has a lot of character..is clean, the rooms are nice, you just must make sure you ask for a private bathroom. I will definitely stay there again.

I was told to hit up this old hotel by a few Jasper aficionado friends of mine who told me the place to be in Jasper was the Atha-B pub.. so what better place to stay than just upstairs? The idea seemed so great until we checked in.. met by a sort of abrasive customer service (?) person at the front, we exchanged a glance amidst ourselves, put down a card for incidentals and lugged our belongings up almost 2 flights of stairs (ever heard of an elevator people.. or at the very least a bellboy?).After hauling our stuff up to our room, we decided to treat ourselves with a drink at the renowned pub we'd heard so much about. The room was, after all, a little smaller than we had imagined, and our bathroom -- right down the hall.. shared with a few other rooms on the floor.Umm.. hostel? Might have been cheaper. Should have been more alert when they informed us that our room was one with a 'shared bathroom'.. what else might that have meant. I thought maybe they'd gone the way of the party line, which I remember, not so fondly from my upbringing.Pass.Maybe next time we'll worry less about our budget and more about how we're treated.
