This long and historic roadway stretches some 400 miles between Nashville, Tennessee, and Natchez, Mississippi. The route served as a pathway for early Indian tribes in the area and was later used by pioneer settlers, traders and Colonial troops. Now maintained by the National Park Service, the Trace cuts through some of the most dense and beautifully preserved woodlands in the state. Picnic areas, campsites and historic markers line the Trace, making it an interesting and peaceful place for a Sunday drive. Motorists are advised to obey the speed limit and drive with caution, as wildlife flourishes along the roadway.disabled access.
