Distinguished by the bamboo panjang architecture, wooden thatched-roof structures with high-pitched roofs and steep, and slightly flared sides, the Malay Village offers a peek at the kampong (village) life that was once the very essence of Singapore living. Audio-visual presentations recount Malay legends, while a cultural museum displays textiles, household gadgets, kites and weaponry. The traditional Malay homestead is also featured, complete with activities like fishing and rice-pounding scenes. A low-rise complex accommodates shops selling ethnic goods, handicrafts and textiles. On weekends, there are free cultural performances in the evening.
