Beautiful rooms
This hotel has remodel all their rooms and are extremely beautifuly decorated. They do serve a continental breakfast which consist of pasteries and fruit but the location is great. Fisherman's wharf is walking distance as well as downtown. Not all rooms have opening doors to the garden but the quad area is nice as well. I absolutly love our nice wooden bed with clean crisp white bed spread. Their a room for everyone to find because all the rooms are drifferently decorated. I would definetly recommend this bed and breakfast to all my friends.

warm and cozy
I love the location of this inn. It was near all the attractions of Monterey and a leisure walk to Cannery Row area. The room (12) was just remodeled. The headboard was large and had adjustable dimmer overhead lights. The TV cabinet is also dresser and looked very high class. The heater worked great. The place is very quiet. The only noise I ever heard were few horns from the traffic on Pacific Street and an inconsiderate twerp in room 11 closing and opening his car door few times at 3:00 am.

Don't ever leave anything behind
The place was nice but the people are not to be trusted. We left something behind and recognized that shortly after we had left. We phoned immediatly and was told that they indeed had the object and would send it to us. This was the first of six calls where the same thing was promised. The final call was to the manager who apologized and said that the post office was too busy for him to send the object to me. I wonder what the other six calls had in mind! Nonetheless the manager did promise to call me back and would replace the object. It was not valuable but had other attributes. I am still waiting!

I love that place
I liked the place and the maids. The rooms are really clean and the garden is beautiful. Your very close to every activity just a walk away. The only thing I didn't like was their manager she seem and a very bad mood for the days I stayed. Also she let me stay on the phone for a very long time..but other than that it was great

A Dangerous Place
I stayed at this place on May 28, 2005 and when I left, I turned in my keys and put the receipt in my pocket. When I got home, I was shocked. My name, address, phone number, and my full credit card number were on the receipt. This receipt was part of a multiple copy document. What happened to the rest of those copies? I wrote the management and they did not respond.

We're comming back
I studied Russian at the Army Language School (now, Defense Institute of Foreign Languages)in 1959-60, and fell in love with the city, people and peninsula. Celebrating our 41st anniversary we're comming back for @ 20th time. Merritt House is the best! Small, quiet, & within walking (even in our 60s) anywhere in town!

Fine lodging, but do your homework
We enjoyed the Merritt House's great location in Old Monterey and its fine service, but the web site was somewhat misleading -- many of the rooms were more like elegant motel rooms rather than the quaintly furnished, brightly-lit rooms shown on the web site. In other words, the price seemed a bit steep for what we received. The grounds, however, were beautifully gardened and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
