Taganka Square was previously famous for its prison; after the prison was destroyed, the square became famous for its theatre. A group of actors from the Moscow Theatre of Comedy and Drama founded the Taganka in 1964. The theatre's director Yuri Liubimov is famous for his challenging of the party line - during the orthodox Brezhnev years the Taganka played allegories of life in Soviet Russia, and later more overtly political material like Bulgakov's Master and Margarita. Liubimov even meddled and experimented with the work of the esteemed poet Pushkin. The Taganka is also famous for hosting concerts by the legendary singer-songwriter of the sixties, Vladimir Vysotskii.2 ¢/min and up – call home from over 100 countries!http://travel.comfi.com/Best Value.
