Feeling blue feels good

Wonderful changes to the Blues Venue in Downtown Palm Springs happened this fall! Due to demands for Cal David’s Blues work at local high-end casino clubs, he sold the club he initiated, THE BLUE GUITAR. The new owner is so incredibly blues and R & B savvy that the house band is world class. There are constantly new singers and musicians sitting in, along with a Sunday night line-up of guest performers from the visitors to the club (some local and some internationally known.) Even the uninitiated beginners get to belt one out on Sundays giving the place a ever changing sound. The drinks are strong enough to make yer feet stop hurtin’, or you can pass and have non-alcoholic brews should that be more to your liking (coffee is always close at hand.) The house fills up and simmers down to intimate levels several times during an evening. There is a dance floor and a trendy flashy disco mirror ball spinning the night away to the tunes. Intimate, friendly, an outside balcony for people watching or to “breathe fire” on, this place is just the juke joint to hit on any weekend in the desert. The beat, well I give it a 95! This is one of those places that even when it’s bad, it’s good! Don’t miss it, and bring your gear if ya turn up on a Sunday night! If English isn’t your first language, there is no barrier here. Point and smile. Door cover some nights (ranges $5-$25 US depending on who’s playing and how hot the night’s gonna be. Very reasonable. Generally a two drink minimum, but you’ll get thirsty, no problem. Don’t forget to tip the band, they can generally play anything old or new.) Come comfortable or blingy. Not doing the food thing again, yet…so chow down before you come over unless they advertise food for a show night. Debbie the Roboteer 1/30/05
