The Bol'shoi is the home of the internationally famed Bolshoi ballet group. Although the Bolshoi theatre company was established in 1773, the theatre itself was built only in 1824 on the place of the burnt-out Petrovskii theatre. Despite its grand size, five floors of balconies - the theatre has excellent acoustics and is one of Moscow's favourite opera and ballet venues.
