Dating back to the early 17th Century, the Landestheater (built by architect Christoph Gumpp on the orders of Archduke Leopold) originally served as a "comedy house." Over the centuries, the theater developed into Innsbruck's most important venue for opera, operettas, ballets and musicals. Now, under the directorship of soprano singer Brigitte Fassbaender, the Landestheater puts on works by contemporary playwrights as well as classics by the likes of Mozart, Verdi, Strauss and Wagner. Situated next to the Hofgarten, the theater is only a hop, skip and a jump from the Old Town.NYC Best Hotel Deals: 50% Savings In New York!
