Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal, an annual celebration of documentary film making, is held at the state-of-the-art Cinémathèque Québécoise. Most of the component films are in French, and recent programs have included many fascinating French-Haitian co-productions: Raoul Peck's Le profit et rien d'autre (Profit and Nothing Else) and El Chogui. The festival seeks to showcase Quebec documentaries above all else, and supplements its impressive program with debates, lectures and numerous other activities.

Accès Cinéma Africain, a multidisciplinary program, offers film screenings and daily discussion sessions in addition to music, dance and other multi-ethnic activities. Held at the Cinémathèque Québécoise and the Centre ONF, recent programs have featured films and filmmakers from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Non-French speakers will have some difficulty, though full registration does include topical, pre-screening vocabulary tips. Check website for details.
