Romantic Place to Stay Very romantic with fireplace, feather beds, breakfast in bed, hardwood floor and ocean views. We had our 1st wedding anniversary there and had the room all decked out by Romantic Room Designs (local company) with rose petals, candles, flowers etc.. Dinner at nearby Whaling Station was phenomenal. Definitely recommend but stay on the ocean side. Would you recommend this to a friend? Yes
Why? / Why Not? Very romantic, quaint and close to everything
Excellent Hotel with Great Location My wife and I stayed here on our first trip to Montery and it was a great experience. The oceanview room we booked was very spacious and elegant. The views were great and the fireplace was nice to have available. Also, the hotel delivers free breakfast to your room, which was good. In the early evening, free wine is served to guest downstairs. During the time, we got a great recomendation for another hotel further down the coast. Another positive for this hotel is the location. It is a short walk to many resuaurants, bars and other attractions. While I often times find that certain hotels don't deliver for the price, the Spindrift is a winner.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 19 2009 Had a blast! I'm not extremely picky, so I might not pick up on the minor BS that some other reviewers complain about! Personally, I truly enjoyed my 2 night stay!! Location is excellent, near Cannery Row and the aquarium!! Views are incredible if you're facing the water. Fireplace is awesome (if you know how to use it!). Highly recommend Spindrift Inn!
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 15 2008 Great location The service was great, the entire time. Location was awesome. We walked to the aquarium, bars & food. We were able to watch the seals & otters from our window. Our room definately had an "old" feel. Beds not comfy. But the rates were well worth it. Location, service & value will have us coming back.

The view is great if you can see it from the dirty and fogged up window pains. Two the standing lights did not function. The wood they advertise is so wet/moist that it is very hard getting the fire to stay burning. No bell service or real guest service beyond 10pm. The breakfast is

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jan 18 2008 spenddrift Our overall experience was good and we did enjoy the view of the bay. Listening to sea lions bark all night was different from the traffic noise we're used to hearing back home but there are some similarities. We fed the sea gulls from our window and it was fun watching them fight over the pieces of bread. My only gripe is the tub was slippery, the bathroom fan didn't work(sharing those kind of smells in a place like that somehow doesn't seem right) and the wood doesn't burn unless you know the secret. Fortunately I know the secret.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 26 2007 A perfect honeymoon Our room was exquisite, right on the water with a window seat looking out onto the bay where we watched the sea otters every afternoon (without benefit of the thoughtfully provided binoculars!) after enjoying a complimentary glass of wine downstairs. We didn't take the car out of valet the whole time we were there--the Spindrift is convenient walking distance to more than you could see in a week of lazy noodling around Monterey. We purchased aquarium tickets at the desk, loved the continental breakfast (just right to hold you over until an early lunch, especially if you indulged in something decadent for dinner the night before) and spent at least an hour each day on the beach downstairs. The rooms were immaculate and extremely comfortable. We slept with the windows open every night we were there so we could enjoy the sound of the ocean and the featherbed was certainly warm and cozy. The weather was comfortably cool for early June, just cool enough that it was a delight to turn on the fireplace in our room each night. The staff was extremely courteous and accommodating, and when we decided to extend our stay we were able to do so without any difficulty. We hope to make the Spindrift a yearly tradition.
Reviewed by: Suzette from on Aug 30 2007 What They Won't Tell You...! What they "won't" tell you after their aloof, 20 minute scripted welcome is that the hotel is directly accross the street from a very popular bar which has live bands and music until 2am! Clearly heard throughout the night and in our room. Kept us up till it was over. The fireplace was also broken and the logs would not light. The front desk person was RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. I wish someone would tell her there is a fine line between trying to be "sophisticated" or just plain RUDE. (The sophisticated side might be a little tough for her to pull off since she's only making like $7 per hour) She's NOT fooling ANYONE with that attitude! I will not return to this hotel again.
