Runoilijan Tie, the Poet's Way is a regular ship route, along which the steamboat S/S Tarjanne travels from Tampere to the north on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and returns to Tampere on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The name is derived from the Finnish national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg's trips to Ruovesi. The over 90-year-old steamboat leaves Mustalahti harbour in Tampere for Ruovesi and Virrat. It used to carry cargo and local traffic passengers but today it only carries summer travellers. A commentary on the route is available in Finnish, Swedish, English and German. The journey from Tampere to Ruovesi takes four hours and 25min. From Ruovesi to Virrat it takes three hours and 20min.
