Actually, the Reykjavík Art Museum is a combination of three independent museums, the Ásmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum, the Reykjavík Art Museum at Kjarvalstaðir and the Harbour House. Of these the Harbour House is the newest addition, and while the two other museums are dedicated to individual artists, the Harbour House has a more general artistic function. Opened in 2000, the house is a delightful success in redesign and renovation. Originally a centre for offices and warehouses of the Port of Reykjavík it has been transformed into a smart and hip art museum, mixing rough concrete walls and huge steel elements with smooth glass and white walls. The house has six exhibition rooms for art, a multi-purpose space, and an outdoor area in an enclosed courtyard.
